Giving the man 10 cents, he continued to observe the man, who weirdly tapped his cane in a very odd manner while standing in front of the National Bank, so he reported this to a Policeman in the area. This clue of the tapping cane, they soon discovered, was a code to the blind man's fellow bank robbers, who soon hit the bank. Herbie's fast thinking led to their capture.
