Comic Story (9 pages) Don't Mention Marriage to Me
Synopsis: Growing up in a household where her parents constantly argue, Susan vows not to marry. She dates Reed but turns down his marriage proposal. She takes him home to meet her parents to show him why. After a scene and Reed’s departure, Susan’s parents apologize for skewing her view of marriage and promise to make a fresh start. Susan can now marry Reed with a clean conscience.

Synopsis: Madge loves Steve but he says they won’t be able to marry for at least a year, until he earns a decent living. Madge begins to date Jon, who owns the beauty salon where she works, but he admits he’s married and a father. Madge urges him to get a divorce and marry her. When Steve finds out, he confronts Jon and says Madge is “a sick girl” who doesn’t care who she marries “as long as it’s soon!” Jon returns to his family and Steve gives Madge the brush-off.

Synopsis: Cathy takes her vacation at a fancy resort. She is courted by wealthy Dex, but prefers waiter (and future engineer) Johnny. However, when Johnny learns Cathy’s family is very wealthy, he thinks she was slumming with him. To get back at Johnny, Cathy accepts Dex’s marriage proposal, but then changes her mind because Dex is a snob. Cathy tells Johnny he is “abysmally ignorant” and “rich OR poor people are people!” Johnny apologizes and they reconcile.
