Synopsis: Betty leaves her small town and moves in with her friend Nancy in the big city. Nancy gets Betty a job at the Temple Company, run by her fiance Tom. Betty flirts with Tom and tries to break up his romance with Nancy to further her own career. Tom tells Betty "you're cruel and mean and use your friends for stepping stones." Betty vows to change her life from now on.

She dates wealthy John Harkins, but is attracted to her new neighbour Charles. However, rumours fly and April's aunt forbids her to see Charles. John says he loves April but has no intention of marrying her because of her bad reputation. April reconciles with Charles, whose intentions are honourable.

Comic Story (9 pages) I Made Love My Career
Synopsis: Rosalind's mother Margaret has raised her to become a great actress. Rosalind falls in love with Bob, a former acting student now in the Army, but her mother opposes the match. Producer Grant offers Rosalind a job but she refuses. However, Mr. Grant is Bob's uncle and agrees that Rosalind shouldn't give up love for a career she doesn't care about. Also, Mr. Grant asks Margaret for a date and she agrees.
