Comment: Note that the missing child in the kidnapping scam story is a boy - as were most of the children depicted in the comics of the day. Mugsy, the sidekick of the Clock, and Kitty, who was Cat-Man's assistant, are notable exceptions to this "rule."

Comment: One thing that troubles me about this comic is that the writers are suggesting that everybody who practises deception is evil. Not so: the family of the singer Russ Columbo conspired to prevent his mother from learning that he was dead, because she was herself ill and they were afraid the shock of learning of his death would kill her. She lived for ten years after his death believing that Russ was still alive.

Synopsis: There is a racket involving Middle European emigres who have relatives still living behind the Iron curtain. The swindlers trick them into handing over large amounts of money by claiming to be secret police officers from their home country. They tell their victims that their relatives have been imprisoned and that they can keep them alive by paying ransom money, threatening to use physical force if the ransom is not paid. They are outwitted by a shrewd man who is being forced to pay to keep his mother alive, yet knows that she had died several days before the racketeers called on him.
