Diane later flirts with him and flaunts her charms to make him fall in love with her, then rejects him cruelly. Publisher Don warns Diane that she really loves Scott and is only hurting herself. Scott rescues Diane from a forest fire and she admits that she loves him.

Kay walks out into a snowstorm and Bill pursues, but he collapses due to recurrence of a war injury. Kay shields him with her own body until they’re rescued. Bill’s parents apologize for their rudeness and accept Kay into the family.

She romances Jacques, pretending to be rich herself, and he proposes. Rosemary discovers she actually loves him and decides to confess all, but Jacques beats her to it: his name is Jack and he’s a fortune-hunter looking for a rich wife. Rosemary and Jack see the irony and will marry for love, not money.
