Neither one admits the truth but when Jean is in danger during a run, Carl overcomes his fear and rescues her.

Betty breaks up with him and Bob finally agrees to marry her right away. However, when Barbara's husband is dismissed because he's married, Betty tells Bob it's better to wait the two years to get married.
