Synopsis: 17-year-old Terry wants to marry Chris before he goes in the Army, but her parents feel she is too young. Terry says "we wouldn't need a license to tell we're married," and Chris understands she's willing to sleep with him. They sneak off to a shabby motel but Terry backs out at the last moment; they both realise they want to be married properly, and agree to wait.

Synopsis: After WWII, Marla and her ailing father leave Austria for Paris. She gets a job as a seamstress in the House of Flambeau dressmaking business. When a model falls ill, Marla fills in to show Lady Diana and her fiancé Reggie, the Earl of Moresby, a new gown. Diana refuses to wear the gown so Roger takes Marla to the ball. He proposes to her, but she has to hurriedly leave because her father must have his medicine by midnight. Reggie tracks her down and they will be married.

Synopsis: Cheryl is bored with her job in a brokerage house and tired of waiting for Greg to declare his love for her. She dates client Juan, a wealthy Argentine. Juan says his father controls the family money and he'll soon have to return to his country, unless Cheryl falsifies some stock orders so he can make a lot of money quickly. Cheryl discovers Juan is a fraud and calls Greg to rescue her. Greg does so, and finally admits he loves her.

Irene marries Hal but Nicky escapes from prison and abducts her. Irene causes their car to crash: Nicky is captured and she is reunited with Hal.

Synopsis: In the early 1900s, Nan and Mal met, fell in love, and got married. Mal is a mining engineer but Nan cannot stand living in remote locations, especially when her baby dies due to lack of medical attention. She returns to San Francisco and gets a job. Mal returns and says he'll give Nan her freedom if she wishes it: he'll return the next day for her answer. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake intervenes: Nan is trapped in the wreckage but Mal helps rescue her. They get back together and in 1952 celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Synopsis: Aspiring artist Della marries art director Don and moves to New York. She meets fellow artist Truslow, who says Don buys "slick" art without true soul. Della is impressed although Don warns her Truslow is a poseur. Della abandons her realistic illustrations and paints abstract work. She calls Don a charlatan when he calls her art "ridiculous." Della leaves him but after a time realises she isn't creating art, she's become a "pretentious, foolish intellectual snob." When Truslow makes a pass at her she is rescued by Don. They reconcile.
