Comic Story (9 pages) I Struck it Rich
Synopsis: Gloria meets wealthy Roger while on vacation and they become engaged 3 days later. Roger and Gloria hire Bill’s boat for a cruise; when a storm blows up Roger panics, but Gloria helps Bill save them from sinking. They land on a deserted island. Roger turns into a “mad beast,” jealously attacking Bill. They’re all rescued by a passing ship in the nick of time. Gloria breaks up with Roger and will marry Bill.

Synopsis: Tourist Martha becomes involved in a Latin American revolution. She’s rescued by soldier of fortune John; they flee through the jungle, pursued by rebel troops. Martha and John fall in love. He sends her across a river to safety, remaining behind to hold off the rebels. John vanishes, and Martha returns to the USA. Some time later, she’s greeted by John, who remained in the jungle until he found gold: he is now able to marry her.

Synopsis: Doris and Bill fall in love, but when the United States enters World War II, he enlists in the Army and refuses to marry her before he departs. Bill is reported killed in action. Five years later, Doris sees a photo in the newspaper: it is Bill, now known as novelist Robert Crane. He contracted amnesia during the war and is engaged to an actress. Doris is hired as Bill’s secretary. Bill suffers a mental breakdown due to her presence, but eventually recovers his memory and he and Doris are reunited.

Synopsis: Connie is envious of her college friend Peggy’s wealth. Visiting Peggy over the Christmas holidays, Connie sets her cap for Peggy’s boyfriend Bob and they fall in love. Connie has to drop out of school for financial reasons, and then learns Bob has quit his engineering job to be with her. He wants to marry Connie, but she rejects him because he’s not rich. Bob marries Peggy instead. When Connie visits them, he and Connie rekindle their romance. However, Connie feels guilty for stealing Peggy’s husband and she rejects Bob once again, falsely claiming she doesn’t love him.

Synopsis: Fleeing criminal Jim breaks into aspiring writer Ann’s apartment. He doesn’t harm her, and says he’ll be back to see her “after this business is over.” When his accomplices come to pick him up, Jim convinces them to take Ann along rather than killing her. At the hideout, gangster Sledge makes a move on Ann and Jim is forced to knock him out. Ann and Jim flee, and realize they are in love. Jim confesses he’s an undercover federal agent, not a criminal.
