This story reminded me of an incident that happened to me when I was a child: at the school I was going to at the time, there was a boy named Carl who made the honours list ahead of me for his achievements in English. A few days after the original list was issued to the school's students, a new list was issued that had MY name on it, and I was later given the award, which I still possess to this day. I know nothing further about what happened to bring that about except that the day after the awards ceremony, Carl told me that a meeting had been held at the school to decide which of us would get that award, and that the student it was originally given to was him. I don't even remember if my own teacher, Mrs. Rhoda Atkinson, was even teaching me English at the time, because I was one of a group of students who were so good with English we were allowed to skip her phonetics classes! |
