||Jeff won’t ask Edith to marry him because he’s just been drafted. She says then she’ll be free to date other men while he's away, and he agrees. Edith meets many young men at the photo studio where she works as a receptionist, but turns them all down. Jeff writes and says he’s dating other women, making Edith jealous. She goes out with Charlie, an Army friend of Jeff’s. He tells her that Jeff’s letters are false: all of the girls he describes are actually women Charlie dated. When Jeff comes home on leave, he and Edith admit they love each other and decide to wed.
