Synopsis: Nurse Phyllis loves Dr. John, and when he’s promoted to resident surgeon at the clinic, they make wedding plans. However, he falls for wealthy Valerie and breaks up with Phyllis. John decides to quit the hospital and go into private practice, financed by Valerie. But when Valerie is badly injured in a car wreck, Phyllis saves her life. John’s new surgical technique will allow Valerie to recover fully. Now John knows that he loves Phyllis and his altruistic medical work.

She goes with Pietro to his home, only to discover he is married. Pietro and his wife both openly have affairs: "it is the Continental way." Dianne flees and rejoins Jerry.

But Crane is recalled to military service for the Korean War and dies in a plane crash. Marcy becomes a star. One night, her singing helps Crane recover his memory: he survived the crash but had amnesia and was working in the theatre as a doorman. Marcy and Crane are reunited.

By the time they are rescued, they are engaged. Janey never tells Peter that she deliberately caused the boat to sink.
