Comic Story (11 pages) The Misguiding Heart
Synopsis: After Rita’s sailor boyfriend Jerry is killed in action, she goes to work in an Army camp office. She dates soldier Ritchie and they fall in love. When she learns he’s being shipped overseas, Rita alters Ritchie’s orders to have him assigned to the camp. This upsets Ritchie’s plans for a promotion and transfer. Rita does it again and then tells Ritchie. “How could you have presumed to do that? You don’t know the meaning of love!” He dumps her. Rita confesses and is fired. She joins the WACs to atone for her error.

Synopsis: Ted is headed for the city to find work when he stops at Audrey’s family farm. She is attracted to him and convinces him to stay for a while. They fall in love and Audrey thinks “he’ll be my way to the city and all the things I want!” When Ted buys land to build a house for them nearby, she is shocked and Ted understands “you were only using me as a means to escape!” They break up. Ted inherits the farm when Audrey’s father dies; he gives Audrey money to move to the city. Audrey becomes homesick and goes home to marry Ted.

Synopsis: After the death of his wife, Mr. Little has a nervous breakdown. His private secretary June is given power of attorney to run the company while Little recovers. Feeling her boss had been useless anyway, June tries to run the business her way, but her actions harm the company. June is dating Ben, Little’s doctor. When Little comes home, June sets up a fake suicide attempt to make sure her boss is recommitted. Ben finds out and has Little released. June is fired but not arrested: “I’m going to let you live with the thought of the horrible thing you tried to do!” Ben says “goodbye, June!”
