Always great to see more of the MAD Magazine knock-offs available. This one, edited by Carl Burgos, has art by Don Orehek, Bill Everett, Joe Sinnott, Burgos himself, Jim Roth, and Stan Goldberg. None of it is anywhere near the MAD gold standard, but it provides insight into that awkward interval between '55 and '60 when many cartoonists were scuffling and forced to bat out satirical fare, which wasn't always their strong suit. ZANY helped a handful of artists and writers pay the rent (or their mortgages) for a few issues, and for that we should be grateful. Check it out! |
