Comic Story (9 pages) The Boy I Left Behind
Synopsis: Ellen refuses to marry Eddie because she wants to have a better life than he can offer her. She quits business school and goes to work in a department store where she’s quickly promoted. Eddie proposes again and breaks up with her when Ellen refuses again. Ellen dates wealthy Roger and allows him to believe she’s from a prominent family although her parents are actually poor. When Ellen's father falls ill, Roger’s family learns the truth and he rejects her. Ellen reconciles with Eddie and they’ll live on his salary.

Pearl turns down the job and decides to win Warren’s heart. Warren dates Connie so Pearl goes out with Lew to make him jealous, but Warren only wishes her luck. Pearl tells Connie that she’s secretly engaged to Warren, which is a lie, and Warren soon finds out. Pearl accepts her aunt’s job offer. She realises she was like a selfish child herself. Lew shows up and Pearl realizes she loves him.

Synopsis: Jane, Cay and Lizabeth move to New York from Ohio. Jane dates handsome bellhop Bill and gets a secretarial job in the hotel, while Cay and Lizabeth try to find more glamorous jobs. Bill proposes to Jane and she accepts; her friends are shocked until they learn Bill’s father owns a chain of hotels and Bill is just working as a bellhop to gain experience.

Synopsis: Kit and Joe are longtime friends but she doesn’t view him romantically. When she falls in love with Corry, Joe professes his love for her and says his life will be ruined without her. Kit asks Corry to wait until the situation is straightened out, and she tries to promote a romance between Joe and Joan. Joe doesn’t respond to Joan’s affections and he flies into a rage when Kit says she’s going to marry Corry. However, Kit knows she’s made the right decision: pity is not love.

He’s engaged to Betty but says he still loves Ronny. To quash his infatuation, Ronny is openly rude to Betty; this makes Tom hate Ronny and defend Betty. On the flight back to New York, Ronny meets ad man Vic and they fall in love.
