Synopsis: Model Joyce agrees to rent a safe deposit box under the name “Caroline Gray” for her boyfriend Nick. He’s indicted for racketeering and she flees to New York and falls in love with artist Tim. Fellow rooming house resident John, a religious sort, urges her to repent of her sins. However, when the hypocritical John makes a pass at Joyce, Tim rescues her. He says the whole Nick situation was resolved long ago and she has nothing to fear.

Laura dates wealthy Andre, lying to him as well, and borrows money from Pete under false pretenses. However, Andre finally admits he has a fiancée and breaks up with Laura. Pete also dumps her when he learns she’s been cheating on him. Laura goes to work as a waitress to repay Pete’s money. They reconcile.

You want a stepping stone!” June enrolls in an acting class so she can achieve her dream, and hopes someday to be worthy of marrying Mark.
